More info on shooting Concerts + Performances

If you ever get the chance to photograph a big concert or show, just remember that most of the time they limit you to only three songs per act (in the pit). So keep your senses sharp when you’re shooting in there, there songs are roughly ten minutes which isn’t actually a lot of time.

Other tips include keep an eye on other members of the band. If it’s a rock band, the drummer can provide amazing images if he’s one of those crazy energetic ones. Sometimes the guitarist might jump around a lot.  Occasionally the keyboard player might be a one of those rockesque Beethoven type where pressing becomes pounding. Also, once in a while we would recommend keeping an eye out on the crowd because a lot of times they people in the crowd can get crazier than the band/performance itself.

If you’re shooting a hardcore/metal band, there’s another reason to keep your eye out in the crowd because water bottles, shoes, and other miscellaneous items become projectiles from the back. In these situations there is the very likely chance that you’ll get hit in the back of your head or maybe even worse your camera/lens will get hit.
